Chalmer "Chal" Guildner - July 31, 2011


Chalmer “Chal” Guildner, age 87, of Gothenburg, Neb. passed away July 31, 2011 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Chal was born May 15, 1924 in Madrid, Neb., to Louis and Nina Sloan Guildner.
He grew up near Madrid, graduating from Madrid High School in 1942, where he was very involved in football, basketball and track.
He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln for a year and later worked for Bullock Motors in Grant.
On Oct. 26, 1953 Chal married Wilma Mickels near Madrid. The couple lived in Sterling, Colo. where he was a parts man for Stickney’s. They moved to McCook, Neb. then Imperial, Neb. and back to Grant, Neb., all the while working in the parts business.
Chal worked at the Perkins County Hospital for almost 20 years, was on the Grant Volunteer Fire Department and active in the Boy Scouts. He loved people, always having good things to say about everyone. He never knew a stranger and knew people everywhere. He was always involved with his children’s activities and was an avid gardener, especially enjoying his irises.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Gothenburg; son, William Guildner of Gothenburg; daughter, Gayle and husband Cliff Reed of Brady, Neb.; step-grandchildren, Jim (Angie) Reed and Christopher (Keila) Reed all of North Platte, Neb.; step-great-grandchildren, Savannah, Logan, Isaac, Brady and Madeline Grace; sister, Lois Vergene Lang of Maryland; and nieces Jane and Lynn.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and an infant brother, Richard Fred.

Cremation was chosen and graveside services will be held at the Grant Fairview Cemetery at a later date.
