Alice Babbitt - December 18, 2012

Alice Babbitt, age 81 of Paxton, Neb. passed away on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011 at the Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home in Ogallala, Neb.
Alice was born July 22, 1930 at Wilsonville, Neb., the daughter of Charles Renwick and Mary Alice (Sherrard) Anderson. She grew up on a farm near Wilsonville attending a one-room schoolhouse until the eighth grade. She graduated from the Wilsonville High School in 1948 and from the University of Nebraska in 1952.
Alice was employed as the home extension agent for Keith County for two-and-a-half years following her graduation from college. She married Merlyn Babbitt on May 16, 1954 at Wilsonville. In 1966 she began teaching at the Paxton High School and taught for 27 years before her retirement.
Alice was a leader of 4-H Clubs for 25 years, most of them as the leader of the Spoons and Spools Club at Paxton. She was active in the Paxton United Methodist Church serving as chairperson of the Ad Council for 10 years as well as being an active member of the United Methodist Women serving as financial secretary for many years. She enjoyed caring for her yard and garden, playing bridge and doing craft projects such as stained glass and painting.
Survivors include two daughters, Deb and husband Mike Hyde of North Platte, Neb., Gwen and husband Bill Peck of Claremore, Okla.; one son, Doug and wife Lisa Babbitt of Paxton; three sisters, Zora and husband Chet Yoder of Blue Hill, Neb., Melva Anderson of Murphys, Calif., Dora Sylvester of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Frank and wife Ila Anderson of Mitchell, Neb.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Anderson of York, Neb.; grandchildren, Paul Peck, Serena Peck and fiancé Larry all of Claremore, Jack and Will Babbitt of Paxton, Sami and husband Jason Ericksen of North Platte and Val Hyde and partner Courtney of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Jaydn, Rylan, and Brecken Erickson and Corby Condon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlyn Babbitt; two brothers, Charles and Howard Anderson, two brothers-in-law, Ted Anderson and Don Sylvester and a sister, Audry Anna Anderson.
Funeral services for Alice Babbitt will be held at 10 a.m. MT on Friday, Dec. 23 at the Paxton United Methodist Church with Pastor Adam Davenport officiating.
Burial will be in the Paxton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.
Memorials may be made to the Paxton Methodist Church in her memory.
