Lucille O'Connor - December 21, 2011


Lucille O’Connor was born on Sept. 2, 1937 at Ogallala, Neb. She was the seventh of eight children born to John and Marie Sibel Vasa. The family lived in Arthur until Lucy was five years old when they moved to Sutherland, Neb. Lucy attended school in Sutherland and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1956.
Lucy was married to Jerry O’Connor of Elsie, Neb. on Jan. 15, 1957 in Ogallala. They lived in Elsie, Neb. before moving to Angora, Neb. in 1965. In 1975 they moved to Wilsey Kansas where they were associated with the Diamond Springs ranch.
Jerry died in 1992 and Lucy moved to Ogallala. In 1996 Lucy moved to Lewellen, Neb. where she started working for the Garden County Health Services as a dietary manager. She was presently working at the Riverside Assisted Living in Lewellen.
Lucy suffered a ruptured aneurysm on Sunday, Dec. 18, and was transferred to the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. where she died on Wednesday Dec. 21, 2011. She had reached the age of 74.
Lucy enjoyed her bridge clubs and an occasional gambling trip. Her greatest joy was following her grandchildren and their activities.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben, William, and Robert.
Lucy is survived by five daughters, Cindy Post of Bridgeport, Neb., Karen and husband Jim Francescangeli of Bedford, Texas, Debbie O’Connor and husband Kidd R. McKillip and Micki McConnell, all of Bridgeport, and Jeri Lyn and husband Oladimeji Solotan of Chapman, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Stan Vasa of Lincoln, Neb., John and wife Lillian Vasa of Holyoke, Colo. and George Vasa of Ogallala; one sister, Agnes and husband Melvin Moritz of Sutherland; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 26 at the Grant Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Pfeifer officiating.
Burial was in the Elsie Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant was in charge of arrangements.
