Michael Dreiling - December 31, 1969
Michael Dreiling was born on Sept. 1, 1995 at Imperial, Neb. He was the oldest of two children born to Rick and Dawnya Shafer Dreiling. Michael lived in Imperial until his family moved to Grant, Neb. in 2004 and he was presently a junior at Perkins County High School.
Michael was active in his school and the community. He served as an altar boy at Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. He participated in all sports at school, was an honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society. He was involved in all aspects of the speech team, including plays and musicals and was part of the Oral Interpretation of Drama team that had qualified for state competition this week. He was a member of FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) FFA (Future Farmers of America), and the Quiz Team. He participated in Mock Trial and was a member of the Student Council. He had participated in 4-H and was presently working towards his Eagle Award in Boy Scouts. He was chosen by to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Camp sponsored by the Grant Rotary. He was in the band- marching, pep, and jazz. He was a great mentor to younger kids and helped coach youth soccer, basketball, and the swim team. He was an outgoing young man and there wasn’t a stranger in his life. He will be greatly missed by his classmates and friends.
Michael was returning to Grant late Friday night, March 16, 2012, when his car ran off county road 760 one-fourth mile west of Grant. He was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. He was 16 years old.
He is survived by his parents, Rick and Dawnya; his younger sister, Laura; grandparents, Carl and Pam Schumacher of Wauneta, Neb., Michael and Cheryl Dreiling of Champion, and Don and Jo Hevelone of Plymouth, Neb.; great-grandmothers, Mary Dreiling of Imperial, Glenda Loeffler of North Platte Neb. and Eileen Martell of Imperial; many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, March 20 at Mother of Sorrows with Rev. Mark Pfeiffer officiating.
Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
