Bruce Edwin Schneider - December 12, 2003
Bruce Edwin Schneider, age 71, of Elko, Nev. passed away March 12, 2012 at Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Grant, Neb. on July 22, 1940 to Walter and Ida Stierlen Schneider and was the youngest of three sons.
Bruce graduated from Perkins County High School in 1957. Following graduation he worked in the Grant area in farming, as a police officer, and a mechanic. He later moved to Holyoke, Colo. where he worked as a certified auto body technician at Schneider Brothers with his brother, Bob, and later for Baldwin Chevrolet. After moving to Elko, Bruce and Charlotte owned and operated several businesses including Top Notch Body Shop, Top Notch Rentals, and Sierra Appraisal Service and was an all-around handyman.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and airplanes, and was an avid collector. Bruce never knew a stranger and was surrounded by many friends. He was known for his many stories and following the invention of the internet Bruce found a whole new audience to share his stories with.
Bruce was united in marriage to Wilma Wheeler and to this union were born three children. He later married Charlotte Hodde and they made their home in Elko. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Charlotte; two sons, John and wife Kay of Elko, and Thom and wife Cindy of Kearney, Neb.; one daughter, Beth Richards and friend Steve Evans of Holdrege, Neb.; one brother, Bill and wife Kathleen of North Platte, Neb.; sister-in-law, Norma Schneider of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and long time family friend, T.J. and wife Ghie Bingman of Elko.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob; and two grandsons, Corey Richards and Terry Schneider.
Memorial services were held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, in Elko on March 15, 2012
