Jack Harveyt - April 19, 2012


Jack G. Harvey, 85, of Malcom, Neb. and formerly of North Platte, Neb. passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, in Lincoln, Neb.
Jack was born the fourth of five children on April 9, 1927, to Sylvester Leo and Ada Henrietta Jones Harvey in Crete, Neb. At the age of 15, he left home and joined the Navy Seabees. He completed his education while in the Navy.
On April 12, 1947, Jack married Bertha Louise Nutt in Elsie, Neb. They were blessed with three children, Jim, Sharon and Jacque. They also had a foster daughter, Jan.
During Jack’s younger years, he worked as a meat cutter, horse trainer, rancher and for the Arizona copper mines. He also drove a truck for the Elsie Co-op. During these years Jack and his family lived in Nebraska, Colorado and Arizona. In 1969, Jack returned to North Platte and hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad. In 1971, he hired on with the CF Trucking Company. To his friends and coworkers he was known as “Jack of Diamonds.”
In 1980, Bertha passed away and Jack moved to Lincoln where he was still employed by CF Trucking. Jack married Carole Jean Gritz in 1981 and they made their home in Denton, Neb. Carole Jean passed away in 1990.
Jack never met a stranger. His infectious smile and charismatic nature left friends wherever he lived and traveled. He was an avid gun collector and at one time owned a pawn shop in Crete, Neb. Horses were another passion and he trained many.
Left to mourn Jack are his children, Jim and wife Marilyn Harvey of Hershey, Neb., Sharon and husband Richard Ryun of Wallace, Neb. and Jacque Ryun and friend Ernie Ruzicka of North Platte; his foster daughter, Jan and husband Ken Young of Fort Collins, Colo.; five grandchildren, Gina Harvey, Jennifier and husband Ed Toribio, Christy and husband Clint Sheets, Bryan and wife Crystal Siefford and Misty Tobiasson; 12 great-grandchildren, Jimi Harvey Heintzleman, Sofija Harvey Heintzleman, Natalia and Jakson Toribio, Mickayla and Ryun Sheets, Jarett, Brandon and Treston Siefford, Lilli, Lizzi and Trace Tobiasson; a sister-in-law, Barbara Harvey, of Worland, Wyo; many nieces, nephews and other family.
He is welcomed to the after life by his parents; his wife and mother of his children, Bertha; grandson, Jak G. Harvey; two brothers, Royce and Rollo and his wife Betty; two sisters, Lavone and Teri Marie; and his second wife, Carol Jean.
Graveside memorial service with military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb. with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating.
