Irma Kathryn Thalken - November 30, 2008Irma Kathryn (Hayford) Thalken, 90, of rural Ogallala, Neb., passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Irma was born Dec. 23, 1917 at Belgrade, Neb., the daughter of Edward W. and Gladys F. Rathbun Hayford. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1937.
On Aug. 17, 1937 Irma married John Darrel Thalken in Ogallala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lyle Hayford, her husband John D. Thalken, and an infant daughter, Mary Kathryn Thalken.
Survivors include her son Charles Edward and wife Emiko Thalken of Ogallala; her daughter Kathy and husband Rick Salsman of Grant, Neb.; two sisters, Phyllis Hayford Cox of Scottsdale, Ariz., and JoAnn Hayford Armstrong and husband Dale of Salt Lake City, Utah; two grandsons, Charles and wife Kimberly Thalken of San Antonio, Texas and Daniel Salsman of Grant; two granddaughters, Stacey Thalken-Baird and husband Matthew of Atlanta, Ga., and Kelly and husband Michael Parish of San Antonio; five great-grandchildren, Esme and Mirette Carpenter of Atlanta, Ga.; Ellery and Miles Parish of San Antonio and Scarlett Thalken of San Antonio.
Funeral mass was held Dec. 10, 2008 at St. Lukes Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Ernest as the celebrant. Rosary and wake service was Dec. 9 at Draucker Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Wel-Life at Ogallala.
