Theodore Dwain Betts - August 13, 2012


Theodore Dwain Betts was born on Jan. 6, 1925 in Merrick County near Clarks, Neb. He was the only child born to Frank and Lillian White Betts. There were complications during the delivery and Dwain had a mental impairment his entire life.
He grew up on the family farm and attended rural school through the eighth grade. He helped his father on the farm and after his father’s death he moved to Elsie, Neb. in 1985 where cousins from the Softley, Papka, and Hutcheson families helped take care of him.
Dwain had developed a malignancy the first part of 2012 and had been in failing health. He died early Monday morning, Aug. 13, 2012 at the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant, Neb. He had reached the age of 87.
He is survived by cousins including Bob and Evelyn Betts of Central City, Neb. and family caregivers Justin, Tammy, and Tomarcus Hutcheson of Elsie and Kory, LeAnn, and Kaleb Benz of Aurora, Colo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, (today) 2012 at 8 a.m. at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant with John Long officiating.
Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Central City Cemetery.
