John Monson - November 07, 2012
John Monson was born on Jan. 17, 1947 at Ogallala, Neb. He was the son of Elmer and Bernitta Kuehl Monson. John grew up in Paxton, Neb. where he attended school and graduated from Paxton High School in 1965.
John attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in secondary education. While in college he was married to Lynda Kain on Aug. 24, 1968 at the Wallace St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wallace, Neb. After graduation, they moved to Chadron, Neb. where John taught in the high school for two years.
In 1971, John and Lynda returned to Wallace where he began his farming career. In addition to farming John had a love for raising cattle.
Earlier this year John had developed health problems and was eventually diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He had been transferred to the Colorado Acute Long Term Hospital in Denver the first part of November where he died late Wednesday night, Nov. 7, 2012. He had reached the age of 65.
One of John’s greatest joys was watching his children and grandchildren grow up. He followed his children with their high school and college athletic success. While they were growing up he was involved with 4-H, most especially with his kids raising and showing their calves at the county fair. He continued to manage the farm and cows through this fall.
John is survived by his wife, Lynda, of 44 years; one son, Cris and wife Tisha Monson of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Marney Duckworth-Monson of Denver and Mandy and husband Jeremy Franklin of Lincoln; six grandchildren, Jake and Josh Monson; Owen Duckworth; Johnathan, Blaine, and Josephine Franklin; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Wallace St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Pfeiffer and Fr. Kenneth Borowiak officiating.
Burial was in the Wallace Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
