Christine Pelster - November 29, 2012

Christine Pelster was born on April 28, 1926 at North Platte, Neb. She was the fifth of six children born to Hubert and Christine Meyer Kildare. Christine grew up in Paxton, Neb. where she attended elementary school. She graduated high school from St. Pat’s in Sidney, Neb. before spending two years in college at Loretto Heights College in Denver. After returning to Nebraska she worked for the family business, Kildare Lumber Company.
Christine was married to Leonard Pelster on Oct. 4, 1949 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Paxton. Nine children were born to this union.
In 1952 they purchased the Duggan farm north of Elsie, Neb. They made considerable improvements to the farm and raised their family there until 1993 when they retired and moved to North Platte. Christine continued to serve as the secretary for Kildare Lumber as well as sitting on the board of directors. In June of 2010 she moved into Linden Court in North Platte. Christine had been in failing health and died at Linden Court on Nov. 29, 2012. She had reached the age of 86.
Christine’s children were the center of her life. She enjoyed following their activities as well as her grandchildren. She helped lead the cub scouts when her boys were young. She was active in the Elsie Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society, sang in the choir, and helped as a religious education teacher. She belonged to the Paxton American Legion Auxiliary. Christine was an avid reader and enjoyed her different card clubs. She also enjoyed the dances that she and Leonard shared over the years.
In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence and Bernard Kildare; her sisters, Veronica Thalken, Huberta Pribyl, and Dorothy Stark; one daughter, Catherine Jean who died in 1974.
She is survived by her husband of over 63 years, Leonard; three sons, Pat and wife Donna of North Platte, Mike and wife Joni of Ogallala, Neb. and Joe and wife Carol of Elsie; five daughters, Anne and husband Kelly Kirkpatrick of Grant, Neb., Peg and husband Robert Reznicek of La Vista,Neb., Nancy and husband Kim Baxter of North Platte, Sally and husband Joe Borowski of Grant, and Jill Pelster of Imperial, Neb.; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 1, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Bryan Ernest officiating.
Burial was in the Elsie Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
