Norbert H. Buss - November 30, 2012


Norbert H. Buss was born on July 18, 1925 near Bladen, Neb. He was the oldest of two children born to Henry and Anna Nass Buss. Norbert attended rural school and graduated eighth grade from the Trinity Lutheran School in Blue Hill, Neb. He graduated from high school in Blue Hill in 1942.
Norbert joined the United States Army during World War II and served in Germany from 1944 to 1946.
Norbert was married to Mary Munn on Sept. 9, 1950 at Firth, Neb. They moved to a farm northwest of Grant, Neb. where they raised their seven children until 1976 when they moved into Grant.
Norbert served as a deputy with the Perkins County Sheriff’s Department and later worked for the Grant Co-op until his retirement in 1990. During his retirement he served Meals on Wheels for several years through the Perkins County Senior Center in Grant.
Norbert and Mary had lived in a Westview Retirement duplex the past couple of years. Norbert had been failing in health and had been in Blair, Neb. to be closer to family. He died in Blair early Friday morning, Nov. 30, 2012. He had reached the age of 87.
Norbert treasured the times with his family and was always thrilled when the family had a reunion.
In addition to his parents, Norbert was preceded in death by his sister, Florine.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Mary; five sons, Dan and wife Maribeth of Ft. Collins, Colo., Norbert W. “Bill” and wife Tonia of Huntington Beach, Calif., John and wife Denise of Frisco, Texas, David and wife Lynette of Baton Rouge, La., and Brian and wife Nadiya of Lincoln, Neb.; two daughters, Dianne and husband Loren Havekost of Blair and Joni and husband Ron Kumor of Casper, Wyo.; 21 grandchildren, Brock, Jeremy, Mariel, Eric, Joey, Marisa, Sara, Brandon, Kyle, Liz, Joe, Jake, Nikolai, Andrei, Ivan, and Vladislov Buss; Jenny Green, Leigh Koehn, Karen Howell, Kammi and Laura Kumor; 12 great-grandchildren-Ryan, Ava, Anaiah, Aliyah, and Isla Buss; Lily and Abi Green, Samuel and Charlotte Howell, Willa and Margo Koehn, and Jesi Petley.
Cremation was chosen. Memorial services were held Dec. 4, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church north of Grant with Pastor Wayne Pick officiating.
Burial of cremains was in Grant Fairview Cemetery with a flag presentation by Perkins County Veterans.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
