Janice Hansmeier - November 29, 2012

Janice Hansmeier, 74, longtime Ogallala, Neb. resident, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, in the Ogallala Community Hospital.
Janice was born Oct. 21, 1938 in Kimball, Neb., the daughter of Roland and Violet (Nelson) Smith. She was raised near Roscoe, Neb. and attended elementary school at District 15, Roscoe.
Following graduation in 1956 from Ogallala High School, Janice worked for the county superintendent’s office.
On April 13, 1958 Janice married Gerald E. Hansmeier in Ogallala. The couple resided in Ogallala until 1961 when they moved to the family farm southeast of Ogallala.
Janice was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Dorcas Ladies Aid. She enjoyed belonging to the M and M Club, MS support group, card clubs, and the women’s birthday group. Her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching, and collecting bird figurines.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant sister Barbara Lee Smith, and infant grandson Bryan Gifford.
Survivors include her husband Jerry Hansmeier and her son Russell and wife Danette Hansmeier, all of Ogallala; two daughters: Brenda Hansmeier and special friend Randy Eckhoff of Sutherland, Neb. and Diane Hansmeier of Lewellen, Neb.; one sister Kathleen and husband Ronald Most of Ogallala; six grandchildren: Amanda Gifford, Jeremy Gifford, Haley Hansmeier, Luke Hansmeier, Dexter Robertson, and Brooke Robertson.
Funeral services were held Dec. 3, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, southeast of Ogallala with Rev. Robert Pierce officiating.
Interment was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and St. John’s Lutheran Church Missions.
