Steve Bottom - December 13, 2012
Steve Bottom was born on Sept. 1, 1956 in Lincoln, Neb. He was the second of four children born to Paul and Phyllis (Smith) Bottom. Steve grew up in Ogallala, Neb. and Ft. Collins, Colo. where he attended elementary and middle school. Steve moved to Grant, Neb. when he was 16 where he attended high school, graduating from Perkins County High School in 1975.
Steve was married to Carmen Deaver on Nov. 1, 1975. Three children were born to this union. Over the years, Steve spent his entire working career in Perkins County. He worked for Dudden’s John Deere Implement in the parts department for 19 years. After Dudden’s closure he worked for Big A Auto Parts and opened and owned the S and C Steakhouse. He then became involved with agronomy sales and worked for Highline Co-op and later the Frenchman Valley Co-op.
Steve was married to Jo Ann (Clemens) Hanson on June 10, 2005, in Grant and they enjoyed over seven years together.
Steve was diagnosed with a malignancy in the summer of 2011. He had undergone treatment and surgeries since then but had been failing in health. He died at his home in Grant early Thursday morning, Dec. 13, 2012. He had reached the age of 56.
Steve had been active in the Grant community. He had served on the Grant Volunteer Fire Department, the city council, and the hospital board.
Steve is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; three sons, Sean and wife Christina Bottom of Chicago, Mitch and wife Kristen Bottom of Ogallala and Bryan and wife Alli Hanson of Ralston, Neb.; three daughters, Mindy Bottom of Sioux City, Iowa, Randi and husband Quinn Webb of Cairo, Neb. and Kylie Hanson of Wilber, Neb.; eight grandchildren, Emily, Sydney, Kinley Bottom and Rowen Queen, Addyson and Kelton Hanson, Kooper and Kasen Webb; his parents Dr. Paul and Kathy Bottom of Grant; one sister, Janet and husband Glenn Griffin of Billings, Mont.; two brothers, Mark and wife Renae of Imperial, Neb. and Wayne and wife Karri of Denver; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at the Grant New Life Fellowship Church with Pastor Vince Carrig officiating.
Burial was in the Grant Fairview Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
