Monte C. Nowak - January 17, 2013
Dr. Monte C. Nowak, 71, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away on Dec. 19, 2012. He was born on Feb. 5, 1941 to Anton and Margaret Nowak.
Monte graduated as valedictorian from Perkins County High School in Grant, Neb. in 1958. He earned degrees from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and the University of Nebraska Medical School, Omaha.
He served his country as a flight surgeon before starting a residency at the University of Washington. He completed his ear, nose, and throat residency at the University of San Francisco. Dr. Nowak was a prominent ENT specialist/surgeon in the Phoenix area for 22 years.
He is survived by his daughter Lorie and husband Dr. Jeremy Groll of Dayton, Ohio; son Tony, studying in Lima, Peru; sister Toni and husband Kurt Radtke of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren Libby, Michael, and Laney Groll and nephews Kurt and wife Kathryn Radtke and Shawn Radtke.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Monte was an accomplished photographer, earning many national and international awards. He also enjoyed raising roses and cheering for Nebraska and Notre Dame football. Although he moved from Nebraska many years ago, he always proudly referred to Grant as his hometown.
A memorial service for Monte was held at the Paradise Valley Methodist Church on Jan. 2, 2013.
Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
