Gertrude Hake - December 31, 1969
Gertrude Hake was born on Feb. 7, 1917 at North Platte, Neb. She was the fourth of five children born to Arthur and Georgia Rousch Allen. Gertrude grew up in North Platte where she graduated from North Platte High School in 1935.
Gertrude was married to Charles Hake in 1940. One son was born to his union. The family lived in different communities while Charles served in World War II. In 1946 the family moved to Grant where Gertrude lived the rest of her life.
Gertrude worked at the Grant Hotel when the Bounds family owned it and she helped her husband for several years at the Grant Shoe and Hobby Shop. Gertrude continued to maintain her home with the help of her son after Charles died in 1985 until December of 2009 when she moved to Golden Ours Convalescent Home. She had been failing in health and died at Golden Ours on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, 20 days short of her 96th birthday.
Gertrude had been a past member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Joy, Dorothy and Mildred Leth; one brother, Robert Allen.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Herbert of Grant; seven grandchildren, Rachelle, Sherri, Heidi, Daniel, Robert, Jon, and Shane; other relatives and friends.
Cremation was chosen. Committal services will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, at the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
