Doris McGregor - June 20, 2013
Doris McGregor was born on Dec. 15, 1922 at Merrimac, Okla. She was the fifth of six children born to Art and Ethel Shores Lawson. The family moved to eastern Nebraska when Doris was an infant and later to Perkins County, northwest of Madrid, Neb. The family moved south of Madrid when she was in the third grade and Doris attended school in Madrid graduating from Madrid High School in 1940.
Doris was married to Frank McGregor on Aug. 6, 1941 in Ogallala, Neb. One daughter, Diana, was born to this union. They lived on a farm south of Grainton, Neb. until 1955 when they moved to Grant, Neb. where she lived the rest of her life.
After Diana graduated from high school, Doris went to work at Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant. She worked at Golden Ours for seven years and then worked as an optical secretary for Dr, E.E. Yaw and later Dr.Tim Meyer for 15 years before she retired.
Frank died in 1995 and Doris continued to maintain her home until 2009 when she moved to Park Ridge Assisted Living. Because of failing health she moved to Golden Ours in 2010. She died peacefully at Golden Ours on Saturday June 15, 2013. She had reached the age of 90.
In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Lawson and three sisters, Goldie Jackson, Opal Ramsey, and Lela Hutsell.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana McGuire of Grant; two grandchildren, Scott McGuire of Grant and Michelle McGuire of Reno, Nev.; three great-grandchildren, Logan Hansen, Justin and Jadyn McGuire; one sister, Grace Peak of Grant; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside committal services will be held on Friday, June 21 at 1:30 p.m. at the Grant Fairview Cemetery with John Long officiating.
