Rita A. Kohmetscher, 83 of Lawrence, Neb. died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at her home in Lawrence.
Rita was born on Dec. 2, 1929 to Rudolph and Marie (Dolnicek) Faimon on a farm northwest of Lawrence. She attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947. She taught in a country school for two years.
She married LaVern J. Kohmetscher on May 25, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. Rita had worked at Friend’s IGA Store, Pax-Ten in Lawrence, the nursing home and hospital in Red Cloud, the Blue Hill Care Center in Blue Hill, Dutton-Lainson Co. in Hastings, milked cows on a farm in the Lawrence area and a babysitting/daycare service which she enjoyed tremendously.
Rita was a volunteer at the Hope Pregnancy Center in Superior, was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, sewing (quilting) circle, and Rural Carriers Auxiliary. She held many offices in these organizations including three years as state president of the Rural Carriers Auxiliary. She was also a CCD teacher for several years. Family, gardening, flowers, quilting and going to the farm were an important part of her life.
Rita is survived by three sons, Dennis and wife Gail Kohmetscher of Ocoee, Fla., Kenneth Kohmetscher of Grant, Neb., Curt Kohmetscher, Lawrence; one daughter, Mary and husband Kenneth Kathman of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert and wife Maureen Faimon of Blue Hill, Neb., Paul and wife Wanda Faimon and Pat and wife Cheryl Raimon all of Lawrence; eight sisters, Vivian and husband Ray Juranek of Hastings, Neb., Angela and husband Stan Juranek, Jr. of Crook, Colo., Bernadette and husband Robert Novotny of Colorado Springs, Maxine and husband Elmer Rempe of Superior, Neb., Marian and husband Albert Herbek, Jr. of Lawrence, Maureen and husband Adrian Menke of Lawrence, Agnes and husband Howard Schroer of Lincoln, Neb., Theresa and husband Tom Kulek of Hastings; one brother-in-law, Ron Buescher of Lawrence; two sisters-in-law, Martha Faimon of Lawrence and Loraine Faimon of Lincoln.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers-Harold and Arnold Faimon, and one sister, Charlene Buescher.
Mass of Christian Burial was held June 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loras Grell officiating.
Burial was in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Lawrence.
A memorial has been established.
Merten-Butler Mortuary of Blue Hill was in charge of arrangements.
