Edwin Steinke - September 12, 2013

Edwin Steinke was born in Perkins County north of Venango, Neb. on Oct. 19, 1919. He was the oldest of 10 children born to Henry and Emma Miller Steinke. He was baptized in Sedgwick County, Colo. on Feb. 8, 1920. He grew up on the family farm and attended District 7 country school through the eighth grade. Edwin was confirmed at the Venango St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Oct. 22, 1933.
Edwin was married to Elnora Suhr at the Ogallala Lutheran parsonage in Ogallala on April 28, 1943. He spent the rest of his life living on his farm north of Venango. He continued to maintain his home after Elnora died in 2005. He spent a month in the hospital in August and September and had moved to the Regent Park nursing home in Holyoke, Colo. on Sept. 4. He died at Regent Park on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 at the age of 93.
In addition to his wife, Edwin was preceded in death by a grandson, Robby Newth, one brother, Leonard, and two sisters, Doris Steinke and Tillie Courtright.
He is survived by his three daughters, Leona and husband Bill Loveless of Lexington, Neb., Linda and husband Gary Newth of Venango, and Eilene and husband Larry Lacy of Wauneta, Neb; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard of rural Venango; five sisters, Margaret Krems and Irene Abts, both of Big Springs, Neb., Marcie Steward of Littleton Colo., Marlene Sharpe of Tucson, Ariz., and Laurie Smith of Wheat Ridge Colo.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at the Venango St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt Hatteburg officiating.
Burial was in the Venango Cemetery.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
