Julma Yvonne Bonesteel, 89, of Julesburg, Colo., passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 in Holyoke, Colo.
Julma was born June 4, 1924 in Julesburg to Adolf and Marie (DeFour) Lanckriet. She was raised on the family homestead south of Julesburg. She attended District 20 Liberty Country School south of Julesburg and graduated from Sedgwick County High School in Julesburg in 1941. After high school she graduated from Barnes Business School in Denver and worked until she married. She married Herbert Bonesteel on Feb. 24, 1946 at St. Anthony’s in Julesburg.
Most of their married life was spent living on the family farm south of Julesburg. Julma devoted her life to her family and the farm. She was very active in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. She was actively involved in her community and the lives of her family and friends.
Julma continued to live on the farm after her husband Herbert passed away in 1982. In 1996 she moved into Julesburg, where she lived until 2009 when she entered the assisted living and then nursing home in Holyoke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Bonesteel; two brothers, Harvey and Arthur Lanckriet; a sister, Mary Ann Lanckriet; a grandson, Michael Todd; and two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
Julma is survived by her four daughters: Cheryl and husband William Straub of Spokane, Wash., Cindy and husband Phil Regier of Ogallala, Neb., Carol and husband Guy Jones of Ogallala and Connie and husband Jack Todd of Plano, Texas; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 8, 2 to 6 p.m., at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home in Julesburg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Julesburg with Father Michael O’Brien celebrating. A rosary service will take place at 9:30 a.m. before the Mass starts.
Burial will follow the mass at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorials can be made in Julma’s name to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Julesburg, or to Regent Park Nursing Home, 816 S. Interocean Ave. Holyoke, CO 80734.
