Peter A. Regier, Jr. - February 13, 2014


Peter Alvin Regier Jr. was born on Nov. 9, 1924 at Henderson, Neb. He was the second of six children born to Peter A. and Marie Huebert Regier. Pete moved to the Madrid, Neb. area with his family when he was six years old. He attended Madrid Pubic Schools until his senior year when he attended Freeman Academy in Freeman, S.D.
While at Freeman he met Rachel Grace Mendel and they were married on April 15, 1945. Rachel was Pete’s lovely bride for over 68 years. Six children were born to this union.
After their marriage they moved to California where Pete was involved with the CPS, working in the forestry division. Later they moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. and he worked for a large dairy. Upon returning to the Madrid area, Pete and Rachel operated a dairy and farmed northwest of town.
After their retirement in the 1980s they continued to live at the farm until 2010 when their failing health required them to move to the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Neb. Pete died at Golden Ours on Monday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2014. He had reached the age of 89.
Upon a confession of faith, Pete was baptized on May 28, 1939 at the First Mennonite Church in Madrid. They later were active in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Grant which later became the New Life Fellowship Church.
Pete had a passion for serving his Lord and Savior. He was involved with teaching Sunday School and music leadership. He always enjoyed gospel quartet and later belonged to the Cowboy Capitol Chorus in Ogallala, Neb. Pete participated in community service organizations and had served on the Madrid school board.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl and Herman, and two grandsons, Daniel and Lynden.
He is survived by his wife Rachel; five sons, James and wife Joyce of Inman, Kan. and their children, Jason, Janell, and Jaris and wife Shelia Regier; Gayland and wife Marcia of Beatrice, Neb. and their children, Paula and husband Brian Heinz, Anne, and John Regier; Phil and wife Cindy of Madrid, Neb. and their children, Phillip Regier, Shanel and husband J.D. Heinz, Lynette Regier and her fiance’ John; Ron and wife Lorie of Madrid and their children, Adrian Regier, Rachelle and husband Chris Fryzek, Chantel and husband Jason Cave, Melissa and husband Chase Sauder, and Natalie Regier; Don and wife Lisa of Julesburg, Colo. and their children, Mary, Ben, and Elizabeth Regier; one daughter, Carol Robertson of Madrid and her children Brent and wife Amy, Darin and wife Katie, Brad and wife Julie, Renae, and Greg and wife Mollie Robertson; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Preheim of Freeman and Marian Brundage of Camp Verde, Ariz.; one brother, Ivan and wife Anne of Madrid; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Grant New Life Fellowship Church with Pastor Art Roth officiating.
Burial was in the Madrid Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
