David Werner - April 10, 2014

David Werner was born on March 15, 1950 at Grant, Neb. He was the second of three children born to Omer and Ruth Pankonin Werner. David grew up in Grant where he attended school, graduating as the salutatorian in the Perkins County High School class of 1969. David then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the honors program. After his graduation David was affiliated with the University’s Sheldon Art Gallery.
David moved to Sutherland in the 1980s and worked as a welder with the Gerald Gentleman Power Plant. He later returned to Grant and worked for a period with his brother in the family’s paint and flooring business. For the past several years he transported farm chemicals around the state for Winfield Ag Solutions.
David had developed a tumor last fall and had been in failing health. He was transferred to the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. where he died on Wednesday morning, April 2, 2014. He had reached the age of 64.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two uncles, Wayne Pankonin and Earl Brown, one aunt, Delores Pankonin and a niece, Krissa Werner.
He is survived by his brother, Darrell and wife Joyce Werner of Lincoln, Neb. and his sister, Susan and husband Roland Wesch of McCook, Neb.; two nephews, Jeff Werner of Lincoln and Jason and wife Missy Wesch and their children, Marcus and Cole of Firth, Neb.; one niece, Jennifer and her husband Torro Dexter and their children, Trey, Zander, and Kyson of Omaha; two uncles, Gerald and wife Bernie Werner of Grant and Laverne Pankonin in California and two aunts, Karen Brown of Grant and Norma Jean Pankonin of Ogallala, Neb.; other relatives and friends.
A memorial service was held on Monday, April 7, 2014 at the Perkins County Senior Center in Grant with John Long officiating.
David’s cremains will be scattered by his family at a later date.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
