Geraldine (Gerry) Kleist - June 03, 2009

A. Geraldine (Gerry) Kleist was born April 4, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of M.E. “Earl” and Agnes (Holfedt) Rasdal, She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo. and received a master’s degree from Chadron State College.
Gerry married E.E. “Al” Kleist on June 27, 1941 in Ogallala, Neb. The couple moved to a farm south of Ogallala in 1947. Al and Gerry operated the farm and Gerry did substitute teaching before she returned to teaching English at the Grant High School full-time in 1968. She retired from teaching in 1989, She had been a member of P.E.O. and was an Ak-Sar-Ben Countess in 1938.
She died Wednesday evening, June 3, 2009 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant, Neb.
Gerry is survived by a daughter Becky Kleist of Tucson, Ariz.; sons Kim Kleist of California and Mel and wife Michelle Kleist of North Platte, Neb.; grandchildren Emmarie Nagle, Matt and wife Nikkie Linker and Marissa Kleist; great-granddaughter Madalynn Linker; sister E. Jane Kuska of Los Angeles, Calif., and brother Dan Rasdal of Los Altos, Calif.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 9 at the United Church of Christ, First Congregation with Pastor Lauren Heidenreich officiating. Burial was in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
There has been a memorial established to the Perkins County Schools Foundation in memory of Gerry Kleist.
