Gary Dean Wingett - July 05, 2009

Gary Dean Wingett, 76, of Grant, Neb., formerly of North Platte, Neb., died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the Perkins County Community Hospital in Grant.
Gary was born Aug. 6, 1932, to Herbert Charles and Nellie Margaret Raney Wingett at North Platte where he grew up. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1950 and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. In December of 1952, Gary joined the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge in 1954, he returned to the railroad in North Platte and worked as a breakman and retired in 1992 as a conductor.
On Nov. 29, 1955, Gary married Mary Ellen Hill in Julesburg, Colo., and they made their home in North Platte. After his retirement, they lived in Deming, N.M. for eight years and traveled to Texas and Arizona before settling in Grant in 2002 to be near the grandkids.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and loved to play pool.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary of Grant; three daughters, Cindy and husband Dave Walz and Melissa and husband Dean Trusty all of North Platte and Cheryl Rohnert of Denver; his son, Randy and wife Shelli Wingett of Papillion, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Kimberly and Dr. Allison Walz, Kendra and Nate Rohnert, Brandon Wingett, and Austin, Kacy and Hunter Trusty; a brother, Wendell Wingett of Heber Springs, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Katie Wingett of North Platte; several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Merton Wingett; and his son-in-law, Mark Rohnert.
Funeral service in North Platte were held Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Odean Colonial Chapel with Marcia Dorn of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial was in Fort McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.
Odean Colonial Chapel Sycamore was in charge of arrangements.
