Bernice Mosel - July 03, 2009


Bernice Mosel, age 90, passed away on July 3, 2009 at The Heights Care Home in Citrus Heights, Calif.
Born July 24, 1918, she was the youngest of eight children born to Otto F. and Dora Pankonin in Grant, Neb., and raised in the farming community of Perkins County.
After graduation from Perkins County High School, she traveled to Los Angeles to attend beautician school.
During WWII, she worked in Denver for Gates Tire and Rubber Companymaking innertubes.
On Dec. 15, 1946, she married Edwin W. Mosel at their hometown church, Trinity Lutheran.
She had four children—Eldon Glen, Joel Edwin, Doralyn Ann and Roy Allen—and farmed with her family in Grant
In 1961, the Mosels sold the farm and their dairy cows and moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., where she raised her family. She was a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Phoenix.
In 1991, she moved to the San Diego area to be closer to her son, Joel. She lived in Spring Valley and was a faithful member of Atonement Lutheran Church.
In 2007, she moved to northern California to be closer to her daughter. During the last two years of her life, she lived in a board and care home run by the Rosu family, who cared for her as though she was one of their own.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Eddie, in 1979, her daughter-in-law Penny, in 1981, and her son, Eldon, in 1983.
Surviving Bernice are sons, Joel and wife Gloria of Spring Valley, Calif.; and Roy and wife Micki of Phoenix; daughter, Doralyn McPeake of Folsom, Calif.; three grandchildren, Justin Mosel and Julia Mosel of San Diego; and Dominick McPeake of San Francisco; and her older brother, Elmer Pankonin of Grant.
Services were held July 11 at Green Acres Mortuary in Scottsdale.
