Wilma E. Bowman - August 10, 2009
Wilma E. Bowman, age 95, passed away on Aug. 10, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow, Neb. Wilma was born on March 2, 1914 in Madrid, Neb., to Ralph and Gertrude Theresa (Grummon) Brown.
Wilma led a long and full life. She had various jobs which included nursing, road construction and ranching. She is probably best known as the owner and operator of “Wilma’s Place” cafe in Merna, Neb.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow, for many years.
Wilma was loved by many, feared by few and adored for her pies. She will be greatly missed.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bertha Weibel; a brother, Orie Brown, three husbands, Wesley Brownell, Orion Bryant and Ray Bowman; an infant daughter, Ardythe Diane Brownell; her son, Arlen Bryant; son-in-law, F. Gene Spurlock; a grandson, Michael Otto; and an infant great-great-granddaughter, Riece Micah Fletcher.
She is survived by three daughters, A. Leores and husband Ferris Bunner and Madeline Spurlock, both of Merna; and W. Jean and husband Don Block of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter-in-law, Stella Bryant of Hobbs, N.M.; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 36 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009 at the Assembly of God Church in Broken Bow with Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Merna Cemetery.
Govier Brothers Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
