Frank Paulsen Mort - January 03, 2010
Frank Paulsen Mort was born at Tate, Neb. on Feb. 2, 1914 and passed away Jan. 3, 2010 in Sterling, Colo.He was the son of Clarence Ward and Frieda Mae Mort and younger brother to Lester Mort. He graduated from Venango High School in Venango, Neb. in 1930 and shortly thereafter, Frank began dating his future wife, Evelyn Estella From. The two married Aug. 12, 1936.
Frank attended the University of Wyoming where he played on three hockey teams and became a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He took a strong interest in the field of geology and graduated in 1937 with a bachelor of arts. He went on to get his masters degree in 1939.
After college, Frank became an accomplished petroleum geologist and worked for a number of independent oil operators as well as the prominent multinational oil company, Shell Oil.
In 1942 Frank and Evelyn started their family and welcomed their first daughter, Janet Diane, on Jan. 20. In 1945 they welcomed their second daughter, Frances Jean, on Oct. 18.
Over the years, Frank and Evelyn lived in Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado, and eventually settled in Sterling in 1963 where they lived for the next 46 years.
While in Sterling, Frank and Evelyn owned and operated Western Agri Realty. Frank was also very active in the Sterling community where he became a member of the Rotary Club, the Elks Club and the Sterling Country Club. He was an avid golfer, recreational hunter and fisherman, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world.
Farming became an extremely important part of Frank’s life and he remained actively involved in the management of his agricultural properties located in Colorado and Nebraska through the age of 95.
Frank also loved being a grandfather and great-grandfather, and lived for the times he spent visiting friends and family.
Frank is survived by his wife of 73 years, Evelyn; his daughter, Jean; his six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lester, an infant baby brother and his daughter, Janet Shafer.
A remembrance gathering will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at the Tennant Funeral Home at Sterling with the family receiving friends from 5 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held the following day, Jan. 9, 2010 in Venango, at the Community Church at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
Contributions may be made to either the Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling or the University of Wyoming Foundation in memory of Frank P. Mort.
