Celebrate National Library Week

Hastings Memorial Library encourages all community members to visit the library during National Library Week, April 23-29, to explore all it has to offer.

“Most people know about the wealth of stories available at the library, from picture books and large print to audiobooks and ebooks, but there’s so much more to the story of libraries,” said Library Director Robin Quinn.

Libraries are welcoming spaces that bring communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, game nights, crafting classes, lectures, and more. Hastings Memorial Library offers a wide array of these programs, classes and resources, and also hosts ESL (English as a Second Language) classes, and an annual competitive puzzle tournament.

Libraries play a critical role in the economic vitality of communities by providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for job seekers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.

Hastings Memorial Library is home to Perkins County’s only public Technology and Business Centers which offer free internet and WiFi access and desktop and laptop computers for public use. Other services include: black and white printing and copying capabilities, fax machine access, free scanning services, and even a typewriter.

Quinn invites everyone to stop by for a visit to celebrate during National Library Week next week. The library will be providing snacks and refreshments all week long. Also, a prize will be given to anyone who fills out the new Community Survey, launching this week.
