Fire claims combine near Venango

Quick response times prevented a combine fire near the Venango cemetery from spreading to surrounding crops on Monday morning, Nov. 6.

Venango’s fire department responded with three trucks and Grant and Lamar departments responded to mutual aid.

According to Venango Fire Chief Steve Tucker, the driver of the combine heard a loud noise before it burst into flames. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The combine was considered a total loss, but there was minimal crop damage.

“Being volunteers, it’s hard to guarantee we’ll have enough personnel, but our rapid response time prevented the fire to spread to the surrounding crop. The weather also worked in our favor,” said Tucker.
