County Assessor Peggy Burton told commissioners during their regular meeting on Monday, April 3 that ag land values in the county would be increasing for 2023. Irrigated land will increase 24% for the 2023 tax year. This equates to a per-acre increase of $830 for the best soil type to $785 for the lowest. Dry land will also increased by 27%, with a range of $1,265 to $1,110 per acre from best soil types to lowest.

Burton said the sales over the last three-year period (October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2022) were used to determine the 2023 values. She told commissioners the average sale prices for irrigated ground and dryland over that time have trended higher. As a result, total ag land value has increased by a little over $19 million, going from approximately $807 million in 2022 to $999 million for 2023.

Along with her report on land values, Burton reported that residential properties were revalued for 2023, which includes Grant, Madrid, Elsie, Venango, Brandon, Grainton and rural properties.

The overall assessed value of real property for 2023 is $1,295,765,471 as opposed to the 2022 value of $1,073,163,116.
