Grant CRA purchases Lincoln Ave. property

Along with the two lots in Grant that have recently been developed for new housing— 204 Hancock and 604 Garfield—the Grant Community Redevelopment Authority (CRA) has similar plans for the lot at 245 Lincoln. 

Grant City Superintendent Edward Dunn updated the Grant City Council of the purchase of the lot by the CRA during the council’s short meeting Monday, April 10.

 The CRA will again work with Southwest Nebraska Community Development Corporation (SWNCBC) on the site’s development. 

Although there is currently a house at 245 Lincoln,  SWNCBC Administrator Amy Thelander said the house will be removed with a new stick-built house located and sold to a qualified buyer.

“One house at a time,” Dunn said to the council about the city’s continued efforts to establish more housing in the city. “We are getting there.”

2nd Reading

During their meeting, the council conducted the second reading for a proposed amendment to the City’s Municipal code, which would allow the City Administrator to act as Deputy Clerk/Treasurer for the city in the absence of the Clerk/Treasurer due to illness or otherwise. One more reading is required before the council can vote to approve the amendment.

Public Comment

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Wade Hill asked the council to consider opening the pool earlier for the season so the swim team participants could get more practice in before their first meet. Mayor Lisa Schmitt asked Hill to discuss his request further with Dunn. 

More Security

Upon entering the council chambers, everyone in attendance was scanned by the Perkins County Sheriff’s Office with a metal detector. This process will become standard for meetings going forward, Dunn said. 

No incident led to the decision, but the procedure was another level of security the city felt they could provide for all in attendance, he said.
