Joseph’s coaching future unclear

Pitching with Pritch, by Larry Pritchett

How things can change in just a couple of days.

I wondered what would happen to Coach Joseph in this coaching change at Nebraska, but the possibility of being charged with a felony and maybe never getting a coaching job again was never in the picture. I am sure at this time, Friday, there will be more information released in the near future.

Former Husker Steve Taylor had a post on social media that said some of the things Joseph was charged with were not correct. All kinds of rumors hit the media outlets, and I am sure that we will hear more in the coming days. If any of it is close to the truth, the act was a career changer I would think.

Again if there is truth in the act, it was also a costly one in many ways. Joseph was guaranteed a spot on the coaching staff at Nebraska and again rumored that maybe he had some offers at other schools.

Another thing to consider is the cost in dollars and cents. I am not sure even if the charges were dropped that Coach Joseph would get the big numbers in the salary negotiation.

I have a morning meeting each Wednesday at one of the HyVee stores here and we were discussing the hiring of Coach Rhule. One of the topics was how would a coach that had been the head coach for nine games get along with a new head coach and would there be possible problems with the players maybe taking sides at times? I think it was a common thought that it could be a problem.

Speaking about players and the change, there are some that hit the portal before the end of the week, and some players that made a commitment to the Huskers reopened their recruitment stating the change of coaches at Nebraska.

In our discussions on Wednesday, the arrest had not been made yet, so when it broke on the news I know I thought something had to be wrong with the report. The Cornhusker football news continues to be a big topic!

Friday night we went to Malcolm to watch them play Auburn and to see our granddaughter be part of the little cheerleaders’ show at half-time.

Enjoyed seeing Kenley perform but also saw a really good basketball game. Auburn has had really good teams especially since Jim Weeks became their coach. This year they have another pretty good bunch. They have some big players and they are well-coached. Malcolm is coming off an outstanding football season and it appears they might have a good basketball season also. It was a close game and Malcolm came out the winner by two points. That was a big win for sure.

It was a rough game with the officials pretty much letting them play without stopping the game because of a violation of a rule or two. They were not one-sided, but it was not the best job of officiating, to say the least. Twenty plus fouls were called in the first half and with a couple of minutes left in the second half, there had been eight fouls called. Just saying there might have been a couple more fouls that went uncalled. Sometimes the old coach in me just has to mention the officials.
