Perkins County speakers compete at Ogallala

Along with students from 25 area schools, PCHS speakers traveled to Ogallala on Saturday, Feb. 18 for a day’s worth of speaking and interpretative events. 

The contest featured both a varsity and novice division. Except where there were unbreakable ties, the top six contestants advanced in the varsity division and the top four in the novice division.

PCHS advanced four varsity entries and three novice entries into the final round of competition. 

Finishing in the varsity division were Haile Fraiser-Iske and Colton Heineman (Duet fifth); Bryce Grothman (Entertainment sixth), Hailee Iske-Fraizer (Poetry sixth), Chris Terry and Kenyon Gaar (Duet seventh). 

Novice medal winners were Ian Sihm, Sam McArtor, Matthew Wendell, Jacob Woodmancy and Keshia Leeper (OID first), Bella Fraizer and Peyton Woodmancy (Duet third), and Jacob Woodmancy (Humorous Prose fourth).

The PCHS team will spend the next two weeks preparing for the SPVA speech contest which will be held at Hershey on Monday, March 6. Rounds will begin at 9 a.m. CST.
