It has been a slow start for the Perkins County Plainsmen boys’ golf team’s season, thanks to the cold, snowy weather.

After their first meet at Creek Valley, which was scheduled on Thursday, March 30 was cancelled because of poor weather, the Plainsmen’s second meet in Dundy County Stratton, originally scheduled on Tuesday, April 4, was moved to Thursday, April 6.

The Perkins County varsity team came in second at Dundy County Stratton with 374 points behind Hitchcock County with 366 points, with Dundy County Stratton coming in third with 392. The Perkins County JV B team came in seventh for the day with 458 points.

Individual Scores

PC sophomore Zaybreon Hansen came in first for individual scoring with a score of 78. Paxton’s Jacob Holzfaster came in second with 85 points. PC freshman Jet Peterson came in at fifth with a score of 92.

Head Coach Kelly Smith was happy with his team’s first meet.

“It was overall a good first outing,” Smith said.

Smith commented the Plainsmen’s short game is behind because of the tough practice conditions presented by the weather. However, he is looking for better weather ahead to help them sharpen their game.

Smith commented Hansen and Peterson both had strong performances, with senior Brient Wood ending up being a late scratch because of a sore shoulder.

NEXT ACTION

Smith said he and the boys were looking forward to two meets this week, April 11 at Chase County and April 13 at North Platte. For next week, the Plainsmen will host their own meet at Pheasant Run on April 18 starting at 9 a.m. The public is invited to come and watch the boys compete.
