The Wallace track teams didn’t necessarily like how their week started, but they liked how it ended up.

The Wildcats were scheduled to be at the Creek Valley Tri-State Invite last Tuesday. But when nasty weather blew through the area, the meet was postponed and rescheduled .

Rather than take the week off, Wallace was one of several teams that headed to Cambridge’s Don Stine Invite Thursday instead.

The JV/varsity meet featured some of southwest Nebraska’s best athletes and Head Coach Danielle Snider was pleased with her teams’ performances.

“I am very happy with all of the athletes’ performances, I feel like several of them were pushed outside of their comfort zone,” Snider said, emphasizing that they needed that.

Trey Robertson continued his win streak in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

Robertson had a personal record in the 3200 by four seconds while setting the meet and school record.

Kendyl Flaming won both hurdle races and had a personal record in the 300 meter hurdles, plus had a personal best on her way to a fifth place finish in the high jump.

At a meet that had 50 boys and 40 girls run the 100 meter dash, over 50 in the boys’ discus and shot put and nearly that many in the girls’ throwing events, the Wildcats had 19 top eight finishes.

Wallace placed three in the 3200 meter run. Dajana Garrison was second to Ogallala’s Lindee Henning, last fall’s state runner up in Class B Cross Country. Teammates Ashley Robertson was fifth and Elliana Robertson was eighth.

Other top finishes went to Masen Messersmith, fourth, 200, and eighth, long jump; Kyler Flaming, fifth, 110 meter high hurdles, fifth, high jump, and sixth, 300 meter hurdles; Ryleigh Hanson, sixth, 800; Kaley Sauser, eighth, 800; and Mallory McConnell, seventh, high jump.

The girls’ 1600 meter relay, Marianan Aceves-Lopez, Garrison, Hanson and Flaming, was fifth and the 3200 meter relay, Aceves-Lopez, Hanson, Reagan Pelster and Sauser, was fourth.

Up next

The Wildcats have another tough meet ahead, the Sutherland Invite Friday.

After this week only four meets remain before districts. Wallace will be at the Paxton Invite April 20. The RPAC meet will be April 27 in Benkelman.

In May, the Best of the Midwest will be in Sutherland May 2, then the Dave Blevins Invite will be in Arnold May 5.

District track will be held May 10 at Cambridge.
