Wind and cold temperatures cooled some of the competition at Friday’s Sutherland Invite, but two Wallace athletes were in the day’s best races.

Kendyl Flaming ran the meet’s fastest prelim time in the 100 meter hurdles and ran stride for stride with Perkins County’s Kailee Potts in the finals. Potts clipped the last hurdle and won the race with a season best 16.66.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Flaming finished second to Potts by 0.08.

Trey Robertson won the 3200 meter run by 13 seconds, but the 1600 meter run was a different race. Robertson and Perkins County’s Mason McGreer gave fans a treat with another close finish. The two ran side by side down the stretch of the 1600 and Robertson held off McGreer to win by 0.2 seconds in a season best effort.

Head Coach Danielle Snider said Flaming and Robertson competed very well considering the weather conditions.

“Both athletes are pushing hard to break their old records,” Snider said.

The Wildcats placed two athletes in the girls 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Kaley Sauser finished third and Ashley Robertson sixth in the 1600. A. Robertson and Dajana Garrison were second and fourth in the 3200.

The girls team was second in the 1600 meter relay and third in the 3200 meter relay.

Snider also singled out Brooke Bryant’s season best leap in the triple jump. Bryant finished fourth.

Karlie Finley also earned a mention from Snider with her continued consistency and improvement in the shot put. Snider said coaches are really hoping for her to light it up soon.

Overall, the Wallace girls team finished third by two points behind a pair of defending state champions, Chase County and North Platte St. Pat’s.

Kyler Flaming made it in three events for the Wallace boys team. Flaming was seventh in both hurdle races and third in high jump.

Up next

The Wildcats will be at the Paxton Invite Thursday.

Snider said there will be a few athletes that coaches are trying in different events which she thinks need further development.

The RPAC meet will be next Thursday in Benkelman.
