The Wallace track teams will be taking six individual entries and two relays to this week’s state track meet in Omaha.

Trey Robertson is the only Wildcat boy who qualified, but he has high expectations at state.

Robertson’s D7 district winning times are the best qualifying times in both the 1600 meter runs. He will try to repeat his gold medal performance in the 2021 3200 meter run and improve on his third place finish in the 2021 1600 meter run.

Robertson set a pace at districts that helped three runners qualify in the 1600 and four qualify in the 3200.

The Wallace girls will be led by individuals Kendyl Flaming, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles; Dajana Garrison, 3200 meter run; Ashley Robertson, 3200 meter run; and Kaley Sauser, 1600 meter run.

The girls 1600 meter relay and 3200 meter relay ran times good enough to be additional qualifiers.

The 3200 meter relay was second behind Maywood/Hayes Center, while the 1600 meter relay cut seven seconds off their season best and was third behind MHC and Cambridge.

Running the 4x400 will be Mariana Aceves-Lopez, Garrison, Ryleigh Hanson and Flaming.

Sauser, A. Robertson, Reagan Pelster and Hanson will run the 4x800. Last year’s 3200 meter relay made the trip to Omaha, as well. Sauser replaced Mariah Gardner on this year’s team.

Garrison and A. Robertson ran together for much of the 3200 meter run before Garrison pulled away on the last lap. Coming in third place was Elliana Robertson.

Head Coach Danielle Snider said E. Robertson ran a huge personal best in the race, knocking off 30 seconds.

Flaming won both hurdle races to secure a repeat trip to state. Flaming placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles last year.

Sauser, a freshman, placed second in the 1600 with a personal best to lock up an automatic berth. Sauser was one of three from the district that qualified.

The day did have disappointments.

Junior Brooke Bryant missed out on a return trip to state in the triple jump and senior Kyler Flaming wasn’t able to qualify in the 300 meter hurdles.

Snider said there is always room to improve so her Wildcats will continue to work hard until state rolls around
