Arnold Insurance, owned by Joe Bob Atkins of Ogallala, opened an office in Grant in 2011, occupying the space on Grant’s main street formerly used by La Familia, 310 Central, Benchwarmers and Creative Interiors, to name a few.

Renovation of the building created three spacious offices and a conference room. Staffing the office is Madi Patrick-Jantzen and Nick Spradlin, both hired within the last year.

Madi Patrick-Jantzen

Madi, who has lived in Perkins County since the age of two, comes to Arnold Insurance with a wealth of work experiences behind her, having been employed in the food service industry, business management and helping at the family farm owned by parents Dave and Val Jantzen.

Graduating from Perkins County High School in 2016, she attended Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, Neb., with plans to become an ag teacher.

Deciding that college wasn’t right for her at the time, she decided to go directly into the work force.

At Arnold, she is learning the insurance business from the ground up, after being approached by Atkins.

Madi loves the interaction with customers at Arnold, and likes that every day is different, with different challenges.

“I’m a people person,” she said. A creative thinker, she enjoys finding different ways to help people understand the diverse issues that come up in the insurance business.

On the side, Madi still enjoys the custom baking business she has had for over 10 years.

In her free time, Madi loves adventuring with the family, traveling, exploring new places, and riding motorcycles, being a regular attendee at the Sturgis, S.D. motorcycle rally. “If it has anything to do with the outdoors and adrenaline—I’m in,” she said.

Nick Spradlin

Nick fell in love with the insurance business at a young age—as a high school student working after school at State Farm Insurance in North Platte, where he was employed for two years. After being recruited by Atkins this past winter, Nick joined the Grant office in January. He was impressed with the independent agency, which has the ability to draw from a large pool of different companies for their customer’s policies.

Since joining Arnold Insurance, he spends much of his free time learning the business, reading the fine print and honing his skills as a well-rounded agent, able to develop insurance plans for any customer.

Nick compares what he does as an insurance agent to putting together a puzzle, and enjoys the challenge of interpreting policies and requirements associated with each individual situation. “I enjoy being part of the process, custom-fitting a policy to cover all bases for a customer,” he said. “It’s almost like providing a safety net, protecting what they have built and continue to build.”

When not focusing on insurance, Nick enjoys running and working out at the gym; and is also learning classical guitar.

Nick and Maddie feel they make a good team with unique skill sets—Nick focusing mainly on the technical aspect, and Maddie the social interaction.
