Elmshaeuser appointed as state director for USDA Rural Development in Nebraska
Karl Elmshaeuser of Ogallala has recently been appointed by the Trump administration as the new state director for USDA Rural Development in Nebraska. Elmshaeuser began his new role on Monday, Nov. 27.
Elmshaeuser has served as the executive director for the West Central Nebraska Development District (WCNDD) working with 18 counties and 58 incorporated communities for the past 11 years. While serving in that position, WCNDD received two national awards for community innovation programs.
Elmshaeuser served two terms on the Nebraska Rural Development Commission, recently served on the Nebraska Regional Officials Council and the National Association of Development Organizations board of directors.
He has a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Nebraska and served for six years in the United States Marine Corps.
Elmshaeuser has been married to his wife Kris for 33 years. They have four sons and two grandsons.
As state director, Elmshaeuser will use his leadership experience to oversee rural development programs in a customer-focused manner to restore prosperity in rural Nebraska.
Under the direction of Secretary Sonny Perdue, the USDA will always be facts-based and data-driven, with a decision-making mindset that is customer-focused.
Secretary Perdue leads the USDA with four guiding principles:
• Maximize the ability of American agriculture to create jobs, sell foods and fiber, and feed and clothe the world.
•Prioritize customer service for the taxpayers.
• Ensure food supply is safe and secure.
• Maintain good stewardship of the natural resources that provide bounty.
Secretary Perdue has pledged to be an unapologetic advocate for American agriculture.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas.
