First dollars and events highlighted during August Chamber Meeting

The Perkins County Chamber highlighted new businesses, welcomed school administrators and reviewed a busy summer of community activities during its August meeting.The Chamber met Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Perkins County Senior Center, with 17 people in attendance.

First Dollar Awards

First Dollar Awards were presented to two area businesses, Curtis Sign Co. and Triple T Ranch. Dave Curtis, owner of Curtis Sign Co., offers a variety of services, including sign making, window painting and art projects. Curtis can be reached at 308-641-4133 or curtissignco@gmail.com.

Tim and Tracy Pore, owners of Triple T Ranch, raise a small herd of Jersey heifers and also produce fresh vegetables in high tunnels and farm-fresh eggs. Their products have been available at area farmers markets and the Madrid General Store, and their fresh eggs are now available at Hatch Super Foods in Grant.

Chamber Welcomes School Administrators

The Chamber also welcomed Perkins County Schools Superintendent Ben Jones and Principal Tara (Krajewski) Sudbeck.Jones previously served as principal at Perkins County Schools from 2019-2023 and has returned to the district as superintendent. Sudbeck, a Perkins County Schools alumna, previously taught in Ogallala and has returned to the district to serve as principal. Chamber members welcomed both Jones and Sudbeck back to the Perkins County community.

Summer Events Reviewed

Members reviewed several successful community events held throughout the summer, including Grant’s Fourth of July celebration.

The holiday began with a run hosted by Lauren Klima, followed by a breakfast hosted by the Chamber for the first time. Matt Chandler-Smith provided music and trivia throughout the day.

The Evangelical Free Church hosted bounce houses and provided popcorn, water and cotton candy, while Ride Rite Garage hosted a car show that drew a strong turnout. The City of Grant offered free swimming, and Rachelle Fryzek organized sand volleyball. Lunch was served by Tinley Harger.

The celebration concluded with a fireworks show presented by the Grant Fire Department and Don Softley. Chamber members thanked the fireworks donors and numerous volunteers who helped make the day’s activities possible.
