Private pesticide and chemigation training to be offered

Private pesticide safety training and chemigation training has been set for Perkins, Chase and Dundy Counties.

Training will be offered Feb. 6 and March 6 at the Henry J. Stumpf International Wheat Center in Grant; Feb. 12 at Crossroads Wesleyan Church, March 7 at the Imperial Public Library, and April 11 at the Chase County Extension Office, all in Imperial; and Feb. 8 at the Dundy County Fairgrounds in Benkelman.

Chemigation training will take place at 9:30 a.m. and private pesticide training will take place at 1 p.m. at all locations and dates.

Private Pesticide Training

Those who need initial training or whose license is expiring should plan to attend. There is a $40 per person training cost for initial or renewal pesticide certification. Due to new accounting regulations, checks made out to Nebraska Extension are the preferred method of payment.

Please bring copy of the letter sent by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) if renewing certification. If no letter was received, forms will be available to renew or certify for the first time.

Following the certification meeting or the completion of the self-study course ($60) the information is sent to the NDA that pesticide training was completed. Once training is completed becoming licensed is the next step.

The cost for a three-year private applicator license is $25. After the NDA receives payment a license will be issued.

Chemigation Training

Those whose chemigation certificate expired on Dec. 31, 2018 and will need to attend a training session and pass a written exam to become recertified to chemigate during 2019. Requirements for initial and recertification are the same.

Registration for chemigation training is encouraged, but not required. Preregister by contacting the Extension Office where the training is located. Those who preregister may request a copy of the training manual and calibration workbook to review prior to the training session.

On the day of the training session, please bring the chemigation training manual, calibration workbook, No. 2 pencil, and a calculator along to use during the training.

Those who do not preregister will receive a new copy of the training materials the day of the training. Review of the material in the training manual prior to the training session will be very helpful when taking the exam. Training and testing will take approximately 2.5-3.5 hours. There is no charge for the chemigation training or the manuals.

A list of training dates and locations in counties throughout Nebraska can be found at http://water.unl.edu/cropswater/chemigation

If inclement weather forces postponement of a training session, another date will be publicized or those interested may call the extension offices in Perkins 308-352-4340, Chase 308-882-4731, or Dundy County 308-423-2021.
