In July 2020, ferocious winds estimated at 70-80 mph ripped off about half the roof of a two million-bushel metal grain storage building at Scoular in Madrid. The building was eventually removed from the site and work began on restoring the storage space. Utlilizing the existing cement wall slabs and concrete floor, the contractor poured pillars all around the sidewalls.

The pillars outside of the sidewalls were then used to support a metal roof truss system which was then covered with fabric to protect the grain inside. The structure is approximately 150 feet wide by 800 feet long. A conveyor runs along the roofline and a diverter is used to direct the flow of grain throughout the facility.

Workers are preparing space on the other side of a dividing wall at the west end of the facility in anticipation of wheat harvest. The cement divider slab allows for more than one type of grain to be stored in the facility.
