UNL Wheat, pea field days in Grant June 14 &16

Area famers can take part in a pair of field plot tours being held here next week by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The tours provide an opportunity for farmers and others to learn more about new varieties and other topics relevant to wheat and field peas. 

Wheat tour

The first field day will be Monday, June 14, featuring the wheat variety plots at the UNL Stumpf International Wheat Center east of Grant.

The wheat tour will begin at 10 p.m. followed by a research update and lunch at the center.

Peas tour

The field peas tour will be held at the Steve Tucker farm near Brandon, beginning at 9 a.m.

The field plot is located two miles west of Brandon on Hwy 23, then one mile north on Rd 316, on the west side of the road.

UNL Alternative Crops Breeding Specialist Dipak Santra said 26 different pea varieties are included at Tucker’s farm. 

Additional plots are located near Alliance and Sidney. 

Speakers from UNL and seed companies will speak during the pea tour.
