UN-L crop researcher Dr. Dipak Santra is conducting a study at the Stumpf Wheat Research Center to see if winter peas can survive a Nebraska winter. The peas were planted in late September, and despite very little moisture, passed the first test by germinating and breaking through the soil. Like winter wheat, the peas require a prolonged cold period before beginning the flowering process in the spring.
