“Holiday in the Heartland” Christmas Open House set for Nov. 18

The Perkins County Chamber of Commerce is once again holding their annual Christmas Open House with the goal of promoting local shopping. This year’s open house will be Thursday, Nov. 18 with the theme “Holiday in the Heartland.”

Several local businesses in Grant invite shoppers to stop in during extended hours, after 5 p.m., many offering sales and specials to the evening’s patrons.

Santa will be making an appearance, but rather than his typical grand entrance on a fire truck he will ride in on a horse-drawn sleigh. After his arrival, Santa and his reindeer will be able to be found in the lot next to Soulful Salvage at approximately 6 p.m. once the open house has had a chance to get into full swing.

Visits with Santa will be in an enclosed area so everyone can stay warm.

The lot will be decorated for people to take fun and festive holiday-themed photos at the event.

The Perkins County Senior Center will be holding their annual free-will donation baked potato bar from 5-7:30 p.m.

Dine-in is welcome this year, but for those who do not wish to eat at the senior center may make to-go orders.

Vendors will be set up inside the senior as well as area banks for shoppers to visit throughout the evening.

Public transportation will be available throughout the evening for a fee of $1.25.

Call 308-352-4597 to inquire about transportation.

Also beginning the evening of the open house is the annual chamber bucks drawing.

With every purchase made at a chamber business, shoppers will gain an entry in the chamber bucks drawings which will be held at Hatch’s Super Foods on each of the first three Saturdays of December.

The first two Saturdays, Dec. 4 and 11, there will be three drawings for $50 chamber bucks prizes, as well as one grand prize winner who will receive $250 chamber bucks.

At the final drawing on Dec. 18, there will be four $50 prize winners and one $500 grand prize winner.

It is important to keep in mind that if the winner is present at the time of the drawing, the prize money doubles!

All purchases at chamber businesses made between the open house on Nov. 18 and Friday, Dec. 17 will grant shoppers an entry, and entries will remain in the pot through the final drawing on Dec. 18, giving people multiple chances to win even if their name isn’t called during the first or second drawings.

Light pole decorating contest

Chamber is hosting their third annual light pole decorating contest on Central Avenue.

Light poles will be voted on via the Chamber’s Facebook page as peoples choice.

The top winner will receive $100 in chamber greenbacks.

The deadline to sign up is November 10.
