Despite the heat, Perkins County Trail Riders saddled up to host their annual open show on Saturday June 21. Junior, intermediate, and senior classes were available for the twenty participants. There to cater food was Wood Fired Kitchens of Madrid, serving up their pizza variety.
Numerous events were available to compete in, including showmanship events, riding events and speed events. Each event was worth points to contribute to the all around winners. Each all-around winner won a belt buckle made by Tres Rios Silver. The buckles were sponsored by Pinnacle Bank in Grant.
The Junior all-around champion was earned by Jaylyn McDermott. Runner-up went to Everett Deaver. Following, in third place was Sonya McDermott.
Intermediate, Gavin Gartrell, earned the all-around title for his age group. KAshley Walker was runner up. In third place was Lexi Stanley.
In the senior division, Ashley Robertson was the all-around champion. Just behind her was Taylor Kramer. In third place was Madison Frerichs.
“Despite the heat, the kids showed up to show off all their hard work, sweat, and tears. It was such a pleasure to watch all these kids show their hearts out and leave it all out in the arena. I was ecstatic that parents were appreciative at all we did to get everyone out of the heat as fast as possible. We were done with our show before the heat of the day. Multiple comments flooded in on how smoothly the show ran, how this was their favorite show, and that this is the only 4-H show they had been to that was over by 1:30 pm. To say I’m ecstatic to hear this is an understatement as I’m extremely grateful to be able to do this with it only being my second year running the program. I would not be able to accomplish this without the wonderful parents and kids I have in my club. I am extremely proud that two of my kids took home the All-Around buckle, they deserved it. What a way to represent the Perkins County Trail Riders.
Thank you to Pinnacle Bank in Grant for sponsoring our All-Around Champion buckles.
Thank you to the Perkins County Fair Board for working the arena and helping us set up for the show.
Thank you to both of our judges, ring steward, announcer, and parents. Without all of you, our show wouldn’t be possible and definitely would not have run as smoothly.
Thank you Wood Fired Kitchens for being on site,” said Kortnie Kirkpatrick-Landen, the coordinator of the Perkins County Trail Riders.
