FVC adding 2 million bushels of covered corn storage

Construction workers poured around 500 yards of concrete Monday for the floor of a new 2-million bushel covered storage facility at Frenchman Valley Coop’s east grain receiving facility in Grant.

Macon Construction of Bradford, Illinois will be constructing the new facility that will include a new dump pit and elevator leg to move grain into the new unit.

Travis Theiler, grain originator at the Grant location, said the new storage will be used for corn and will speed up grain handling during this year’s harvest.

He said they will be adding a second scale at the plant, which will also get trucks in and out of the facility quicker.

Now that the floor has been poured, work can begin on pouring the footings for the 18-foot concrete walls that will surround the facility.

Steel beams spanning across the facility will support a fabric covering .

An underground conveyor will run along the length of the building to accommodate grain removal.

The storage unit is being placed at the east of the plant’s bins where corn was previously stored on the ground.

Theiler said they will keep the overflow ground storage available, if needed.

FVC has already added these storage facilities at their Chappell and Kimball locations.
