Have you ever considered what it means to have freedom in Christ?

Freedom in Christ is knowing Christ personally.  Christ is the truth that sets us free. In his gospel John writes in chapter eight and verse thirty-two, “…and you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.”  He also declares in chapter one and verse seventeen “For the Law was given by Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.”  Jesus Christ is Truth! Declared by the Holy inspired Word of God. There is great joy and comfort, that comes from this freedom we can have that is found in Christ.

How can this be?

Knowing Christ is more than just knowing information about him.  It is knowing Him in a personal way, having our sins forgiven, enjoying a daily relationship with him through prayer and reading His Word. It brings about change in our lives. The truth and grace found in Christ delivers us from the power and grip of sin. Jesus himself proclaimed in Marks gospel chapter one and verse fifteen “…repent and believe in the gospel.”  That is, we are to repent of our sins, and turn to God in faith and believe the gospel.  The fact that Jesus died on the cross as a sinless sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.  He suffered and paid the ultimate price for our sins that was impossible for us.  He was buried in a borrowed tomb, and several days later He was bodily raised from the dead.

The gospel record of Luke states it very clearly in chapter twenty-four, and verse forty-six through forty-seven “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, …” the message of Freedom in Christ is based on what He did for us, that we could never do for ourselves.

It is a relationship with Christ through His forgiveness that He gives to us freedom.  We enjoy His presence, grace, love, joy, and peace, as well as many other spiritual blessings.  It is all based on His gospel and demonstrated to us in true freedom from the grip of this world, and the power of sin. John three and verse sixteen, states “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” What a great freedom, and gift to receive.
