Ben Jones, who served as the Jr./Sr. High School Principal for Perkins County from 2019-2023, has been rehired to serve as its superintendent. The Perkins County School Board unanimously approved Jones during its Monday, Jan. 19 meeting.
After serving as principal at Perkins County for four years, Jones accepted a similar position as principal for the Silver Lake School District. However, when the Perkins County superintendent’s position opened up after current Superintendent Mark Jolliffe submitted his resignation effective at the end of the school year, it was an opportunity Jones said he couldn’t pass up.
“Perkins County has been a meaningful place for my wife and I, and the timing now made a lot of sense both professionally and personally,” he said about seeking the position. “I’ve always respected Perkins County, the community and the pride the community has for their school. The position felt like a natural step and an opportunity to serve at a district I truly believe in.”
Jones’ wife, Rebecca nee Cornelius, is from Perkins County, so in a sense, he said, it feels like coming home.
“We’re excited our daughter will be able to attend Perkins County Schools and grow up in a community that values education, relationships and opportunity,” he said. “As a parent and an educator, that connection makes this role even more personal.”
Jones said he has many goals for the position of superintendent, including his initial goal of listening, learning and building strong relationships.
“I want to support our students, staff, administrators, and board by ensuring we have a clear vision, strong communication and a focus on student success, and I’m committed to being visible, accessible, and working collaboratively with all,” he said “I want students, staff, parents, and constituents to know that I care deeply about this district and that decisions will always be made with students at the center.”
Jones was one of five people who applied for the superintendent’s position.
