Pink Out donations hit $30,000 mark

Ten years ago, the FFA chapters at Perkins County Schools and Chase County Schools embarked on a joint fundraiser to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The annual event, known as the “Pink Out,” culminated during the Perkins County/Chase County basketball games.

Both chapters sold pink breast awareness t-shirts, players played in pink and white uniforms and fans were encouraged to wear pink to show their support.

The Jan. 16, 2020 game between the two teams served as the finale for the 10-year charity effort.

The chapter’s donations to the Perkins County Health Services Foundation for the Mammogram Assistance Program. This year’ donation brought the 10-year total to $30,000.

“We were able to raise exactly $2,000 for 2020, the final year of Pink Out. Over the Pink Out’s 10-year run, we were able to raise an astounding amount of over $30,000 for the PCHS Foundation,” said Chapter Reporter Eli Busick. While the Pink Out effort has come to an end, the chapter’s philanthropic ambitions still remain strong.

Busick said they have already started another charitable program, “Living to Serve—Folds of Honor.”

Folds of Honor provides scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

To raise awareness for the program, Busick said the chapter’s members are now selling t-shirts and sweatshirts through Dec. 2. Both are available in a wide-range of sizes. T-shirts are $15 and sweatshirts are $30.

Like with the Pink Out, the Perkins County FFA chapter has challenged all other District 9 FFA chapters to participate in the Living to Serve - Folds of Honor program, Busick said.

With the help of supporters and other District 9 chapters, the goal is to jointly provide as many scholarships as possible through the upcoming year, he added.
