Lady Plainsmen earn a win over Creek Valley

The Lady Plainsmen added another win to their record in the first round in the Perkins County Booster Club Holiday Tournament, defeating Creek Valley 49-41.

Sophomore Samantha Patrick earned the first two points for the Lady Plainsmen within the first minute of the match.

The two teams were neck and neck through most of the first quarter. Junior Dani Burge sank two shots in a row leading into the second, helping Perkins County pull ahead of their opponents, 14-11 after the first quarter.

The Lady Plainsmen increased their lead even futher in the second quarter, leaving their opponents 10 points behind at half, after freshman Meredith Gloy sank one of two free throw shots and another basket shortly after.

Perkins County led at half 27-17.

Creek Valley scored the first basket of the third quarter with just over three minutes left on the clock. They could not, however, catch up to the Lady Plainsmen who scored 10 points in the final three minutes of the third.

The teams entered the final quarter of the game with Perkins County still in the lead, 37-25.

The Lady Plainsmen earned the majority of their points in the fourth through free throws, sinking eight of 10 from the line.

Creek Valley put up a whopping 16 points, but were still unable to catch Perkins County in the end. Gloy earned the final points for the Lady Plainsmen by making two free throws, leaving the game 49-41 at the end.

This victory made Perkins County’s record 2-6.

Had the Holiday Tournament continued, Perkins County would have played Maywood/Hayes Center for the victory. Due to weather, however, the tourney was canceled.

Next Action

Perkins County will travel to Ogallala on Jan. 3, with varsity-only contests beginning at 6 p.m.

Ogallala’s record going into the week is 7-0, and their most recent victory came on Dec. 21 against Hershey where they won by just one point, 50-49.
